Neighbors
Do you wish to know your
neighbors better? Block parties are a great way to turn this desire into a
reality. How can you plan a great one?
Start by getting a few neighbors together to make
a list of what needs to be done for the party, and then delegate the different
tasks, such as coordinating the food. Then set a date and pass out the
invitations. This kind of activity has a lot of benefits beyond the fun and
camaraderie. Getting to know your neighbors increases neighborhood security as
you get to know who belongs in the neighborhood--and who doesn't. You may
discover new baby-sitters or people who would be glad to feed your cats while
you are on vacation. Should someone in the neighborhood need help, you can all
work together to provide it. And if any problems develop in your area, you can
work to create solutions with people who have become your friends.
